Optimising a Joomla site for search engines is largely the same as optimising any other type of site, but there are a couple of specific things to remember:
Search engine friendly URL’s - often with CMS systems the URL (address) of the pages can be long and meaningless to both site visitors and search engines. It is important to turn on “search engine friendly URL’s” and also to ensure that each page is given a meaningful alias.
Joomla “robots” file - By default the Joomla robots.txt file is set to disallow search engines from indexing your images, this can be a good opportunity to gain additional search engine traffic from the likes of Google Image search results. Remember to remove ‘Disallow: /images/’ from your robots file to resolve this.
