Cyber Essentials Plus

Blue Frontier meet the security standards suggested by the National Cyber Security Centre.

What is Cyber Essentials Plus?

Cyber Essentials is a Government approved standard that provides framework for businesses to design their information security systems around. It helps organisations to identify any vulnerabilities and improve their security controls accordingly.

Our Cyber Essentials Plus Certification enables us to tender for central government contracts which involve handling sensitive and personal information. We are also accreditation partners, assisting other organisations in the development and implementation of cyber security policies and procedures.

An auditor checks the cyber security measures

What does this mean?

Organisations must provide evidence that polices are in place for: security of internet connectivity, device and software security, access control for data and services, protection from viruses and malware and that all software and devices are correctly updated.

To be Cyber Essentials Plus certified, an independent technical cyber security audit is conducted by a government-approved organisation to verify that all the relevant security measures are in place.

Five Key Controls to be Cyber Secure

In order to achieve Cyber Essentials status, Blue Frontier had to address five key principles, which we can now assist clients with too, to bring them in line with best practice and safeguard their organisations from criminal cyber activity.

  • Firewalls
Cyber Essentials certification requires that a firewall is used to protect all devices, especially for those connected to public Wi-Fi networks.
  • Passwords
The first line of defence, strong, unique and memorable passwords are vital to prevent unwanted access. Multi-factor authentication also enhances protection.
  • Access Control
Restricting who has access to services, applications and systems is important to allow the correct people to do their job, while limiting the organisation to unnecessary risk.
  • Patch Management
Routine patches alongside secondary and tertiary activities are carried out to protect applications, firmware, websites, operating systems and platforms.
  • Virus & Malware Protection
Use of protective software, whitelisting and sandboxing all prevent viruses and malware from damaging your business systems.
