Branding – Representing Your Business

Creating a company’s brand is important, the image you create must represent the company in the best possible light. As a designer it is good practice to sit down with the client to gain a full understanding of their goals, and an insight into the industry in which they operate. This will all contribute towards helping you form a strong brand that you, and more importantly, your client, is happy with.

The company logo is just the start. Working on a brand allows the designer to become involved, providing advice on other aspects of the process like advertising campaigns and marketing. In time, a good brand can turn a company into a household name. However, the initial goal is to create a company image that’s unique and recognisable within its industry.

Good and bad examples of branding can be seen all around us on a daily basis; Apple, Tesco and McDonalds for instance, are all brands that we all instantly recognise. Some brands are so recognisable in fact, that you don’t even need to see or hear the company name to know who they are …’Every little helps’ for example, is a slogan which every household is now familiar with.

When working on a client’s branding, a designer can expect to be involved with:

  • Logo design
  • Stationery design
  • Slogans and straplines
  • Advertising campaigns
  • Marketing - offline and online
