Google Updates ‘Test My Site’ to Show Impact of Mobile Site Speed on Performance

Google have updated their ‘Test My Site’ tool with a new set of features. The resource now shows you more than simply your mobile site’s speed score.

It will now tell you how much traffic you could be losing during load time, as well as how your mobile site speed compares to competitors within your industry sector.

Test My Site will give you suggested fixes to reduce loading times for your mobile site, and show you how many seconds you could cut from your load time by implementing these.

All of this can be emailed to you as a free report, which can then be easily shared with your web developers.

Test My Site Features Overview

Google’s Test My Site will show you:

  • Your mobile site’s load time
  • Estimated visitor loss due to load time
  • How your load time compares to industry competitors
  • How to reduce load time on your site
  • A free personalised site speed report with suggested optimisations

Why is Mobile Site Speed Important?

People aren’t willing to wait for a website to load. If it’s taking too long they will give up and try another site – your competitors.

A few seconds difference in load sped could prove to be the difference between keeping visitors and losing them.

Impact of Mobile Load Time on Bounce Rates

The Stats

  • 46% of people say the most frustrating thing about mobile browsing is waiting for slow pages to load. (Google Webmaster Central Blog)
  • 50% of people expect a site to load in less than two seconds. (DoubleClick by Google)
  • For each additional second it takes a mobile page to load, conversions can drop by up to 20%. (Think With Google)

If these statistics aren’t enough to encourage site speed optimisation, I don’t know what is! A fast mobile site will provide a better experience for your users, increase visitors to your site, and generate more conversions.

If you haven’t already, run your site through Google’s Test My Site tool to see how your site performs.
