Animated Video Production

FIND’s initiative is to realise a cure and treatment for Tuberculosis. Bm2Dx ensures research centres have access to a central accelerating pipeline of medical devices, assays and treatment.

FIND asked Blue Frontier to come up with a simple and elegant means of expressing this quite complex work within a simple 2-minute video.

The video had its first showing at The Hague for the Union World Lung Health Conference in 2018. Blue Frontier and FIND jointly presented to an audience of medical and clinical experts. The response was a very positive one from the community.

Realising FIND's Vision

Blue Frontier created a precise 2D animation to express the concept overview for the application.

With a relatively complex premise and script, Blue Frontier opted for an animated point style, with dynamic word animation to create interest and engage viewer attention. While the tone needed to express the canvass of a trusted clinical brand, which is evidenced in the tempo and palette used (FIND brand colours and Bm2Dx application colours), this is offset with some playful transitions, with a focus on simplicity and legibility. The result is a modern, flat style with an uncluttered clear message. The animation draws influence from the International Typographic Style, or Swiss Style of the 1950's but with a modern aesthetic morphing of objects applied to reflect the pioneering technology it describes.

(The video) was really well received and some of the audience said how much they liked the style of the video and the message put across.

Using in-house resource

The voiceover was both scripted and recorded in-house with the digital and connected health teams working together to express the aspects of this huge project in clear concise points. Once the voiceover was recorded, and a rough storyboard agreed with the essential elements put to paper, our in-house animator took the audio file, the Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop elements and started blending these into the final Adobe After Effects framework. The final composition was completed in a week and released with the approval of all parties.

I really enjoyed working on this project and was challenged to create an easy to understand piece of animation while distilling a relatively complex concept. The team at FIND were fantastic to work with.
