Compass Corporate Services

Company Photography in Brighton

Compass Corporate Services is a specialist recruitment company, focusing on all corporate and business leadership needs, across Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Property & Estates and Intelligence & Analytics.

Compass contacted Blue Frontier with a request to provide photography for their website.  Based in Brighton, they're currently undergoing a transformation of their business and launching into new exciting phases of recruitment, and they wanted bespoke photography to reflect this new chapter.

Compass Corporate Services are under the Compass Associates umbrella, one of the UK's largest recruitment specialists in Health and Social Care. Like its parent company, this division is growing and needs to convey its unique brand into watchable content on their website. Compass required professional headshots, as well as architecture, office interiors, retail and hospitality images, to use across a range of platforms. Brighton's iconic landmarks and cosmopolitan location provided the perfect backdrop for this brief.

Photography services - heart in hands

While Blue Frontier hadn't directly worked for Compass Corporate, a team member had worked for Compass Associates before, so a precedent existed. After the initial contact, David Bland presented the team with a brief and sent links of similar shots on stock for inspiration.

The shoot was scheduled for March and had to be confirmed the day before due to the variability of English weather. Blue Frontier provided a portable studio lighting kit, a 7 ft by 6 ft lastolite pop out tent for white backgrounds, (a necessity for headshots), lenses and camera bodies, and all other professional equipment needed to complete the brief.

Challenges

Although the weather was fantastic on the day, the basement location of the offices proved a challenge as very little natural light got in. Fortunately, modern photographic equipment requires less light to create good noise-free images. So, as well as dialling up ISO, lighting was used sparingly to maintain the look of natural light. The only other problem was space, the images below were mostly created in a space similar to a large extended living room - with 6 people working in it, as well. Compass' growing team were shortly about to move into a larger, more open space, but for now, we had to create the illusion of a bigger area.

Finally, with such a wide-ranging remit it was important for each element of the day to be scheduled like clockwork. A photographer could spend most of a day on one image, but with the range of images required, a strict time table was worked out for each set of images, including a visit to a local cafe - for photography of course! All the required venues were within walking distance, but carrying gear did slow our photographer down. After a morning in the office to create the staff shots, we ventured into the famous lanes and in front of The Grand Hotel for hospitality shots.
