Congratulations to Liam, our Junior Automation Test Engineer, who is now an International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) certified tester. The ISTQB Foundation course gives practical knowledge of the fundamental concepts of software testing and is considered the most popular internationally accepted certification of its kind.
Liam began preparing for the exam by attending a three-day course from the ‘knowledge academy’ where the teacher described details of the course and how the exam worked. Quizzes were also incorporated along the way to challenge the class' learning ability. After the course, Liam spent a week studying before the exam, revising notes and completing around six mock exams before the real thing.
Liam explained some of the benefitsof the ISTQB foundation in software testing, which included an enhanced understanding of who he is as a tester, what testers do and how they work. He has also learned new test techniques, as well as their advantages and disadvantages and how/when they should be used. The course has also been beneficial to Liam as it has allowed him to develop his knowledge of how a project is planned and how that may affect the testing throughout its lifecycle.
The ISTQB has already helped with Liam’s confidence and capabilities in his role and will continue to do so over time as he tests with the newly gained knowledge that he has acquired.
Liam works within the versatile and reliable Test team to ensure quality standards throughout all of Blue Frontier’s software deliveries. Day-to-day tasks include testing small ad hoc website changes right through to complex new development projects.
Liam’s certification has not only developed and validated his skills but also the collective skills of the Blue Frontier Test team.
